What is a Tongue Tie?

Tongue tie (ankyloglossia) is a condition where the tongue remains unusually attached to the floor of the mouth by a piece of skin called the lingual frenulum. This can sometimes restrict tongue movement and impact feeding, weaning.

Tongue ties vary in type and severity:
-
Some are thin and stretchy, others thicker and more restrictive
-
They may extend to the tip of the tongue, sit midway, or lie further back
-
Some are easy to spot, others less obvious
What to Expect?

Not all tongue ties need treatment. But when feeding is difficult, early assessment and support can make a big difference to your experience and your baby’s wellbeing.

At Latchers Tongue Tie Services, we offer expert tongue tie assessment and, when appropriate, a release of the Tongue Tie. Every appointment includes individualised feeding support to help you and your baby move forward with confidence.
-
A calm, comprehensive tongue tie assessment and consultation by a leading specialist
-
Expert guidance on your options
-
Frenotomy (tongue tie release), if appropriate and agreed
-
Immediate feeding support following the procedure to ensure the release is effective
If a frenotomy is recommended, you may choose to go ahead on the same day, or book in for a follow up return at a later time.
